Will natural stone fade?

Some friends asked: Will natural granite and marble fade? We all know that natural granite and marble stones are pure naturals, and the other color of their minerals refers to the color that is dyed by machinery containing colored impurities in the minerals. It itself has nothing to do with the nature of minerals, so we call it color. The other color of minerals refers to the final color of the oxide film on the surface and internal cleavage or cracks, thin films, etc., which cause light wave interference.

And another calcite, also due to its own cleavage development, and the cleavage surface interferes with the reflection of light, forming a rainbow color map, so the color change and coloring of granite and marble stones are also carried out according to this principle.

Of course, some granite marbles are indeed caused by the infiltration of dyeing elements, such as light gray stones to black stones, all of which are caused by the rocks containing varying amounts of organic matter and heavy metal sulfides. Caused; so no matter what color we see, it is formed due to the existence of iron suboxides or other minerals.

Of course, the formation of different colors must have different mineral compositions, and the color of our common granite stone is caused by the color of rock-forming minerals.

The composition of granite stone itself is composed of quartz, feldspar, hornblende, pyroxene, olivine, and biotite, etc., and the former two are light-colored minerals, and when the content is large, the color is light. At 1%, white granite is formed.

For example, our common lotus white, the latter our common sesame gray stone, Fengzhen black stone, etc., so the degree of dryness and humidity of the stone will also cause color changes, just like in mines where there is sunlight and where there is no sunlight The colors are different everywhere.

Why does natural marble stone fade? We all know that marble stone is mainly composed of calcite, dolomite, and other minerals, and the molecular formula of calcite is: CaCo3, and marble is CaMgCo3, both of which have carbonate [CO3] ions. These molecules are relatively active and can easily react with sulfur dioxide in the air. Because the color will fade after a few years, we generally do not recommend marble stones for stones used in the open air.

Due to the acid reaction of marble stone with the air, cloud-like gypsum particles are formed to adhere to its surface, which makes marble stone fade. For granite stone, the time for such a situation will be much longer than that of marble stone. Relatively speaking, granite stone is relatively stable in nature, strong in acid resistance, difficult to dissolve and weather, and has good discoloration, so it is very suitable for use outdoors.
