What are the construction techniques for marble-suspended stairs?

Connection is the mission of stairs. Connect up and down, connect new and old, and also connect the past and future. Through immersive visual and spatial experiences, people can meet themselves and the future. Different staircase designs interpret diverse spatial atmospheres, creating a rational, dynamic, scattered, and orderly spatial experience. Suspended stairs have a strong sense of fashion and design in modern villa staircase design, making them a popular product on the internet today. It features a minimalist, comfortable, and fashionable light luxury style, while maintaining nobility and luxury, making the staircase a symbol of beauty in the space

Suspended stairs, also known as floating stairs or cantilever stairs, achieve a floating effect by hiding fixed devices and supporting structures. Its characteristic is the design of stairs without support between pedals, making it appear as if the stairs are floating. For this reason, the floating staircase is very popular in the design of modern villas because it can create a unique and fashionable design, which many people also love. It is truly a popular staircase in modern villa design.

01. Preconditions for the construction of suspended stairs

Firstly, the wall of a fixed suspended staircase must not be a red brick wall or a gray block brick non-load-bearing wall. This is very dangerous and unsafe, and it is extremely prone to accidents because the force on a suspended staircase can only rely on a single wall, so the wall under force must be shear.

If the conditions are not met and you still want to make a suspended staircase, you need to remove and excavate the wall, pour concrete on site, and then fix the 1.6-thick steel plate on the wall with chemical bolts. Then, connect and fix the step board and steel plate, and use European pine board as the base layer for all the steps. Finally, add wood veneer or marble.

02. Construction guidelines for suspended stairs

Common methods for suspended staircase construction include:

1. Prefabricate the stair steps and fix them to the wall using expansion bolts and chemical bolts. This construction method requires the wall to be made of concrete.

2. Pre-embedded the load-bearing steel plate into the wall, and the front and end of the steel plate must be connected to the main structure or structural beam. Then, weld and fix the stair steps to the wall steel plate. Stair step decoration surface: Common types include solid wood, wood veneer, stone, etc.

Common methods for suspended staircase construction

1. Direct fixation:

Construction sequence:

Design on-site layout → Welding of steel plates and square pipes → Applying chemical bolts to load-bearing walls → Installing galvanized plates and square pipes → Installing surface layer.

Key points to note:

Directly fixed to the wall requires high load-bearing capacity and cannot be directly fixed to aerated lightweight brick walls and light steel keel walls.

2. Steel plates embedded in load-bearing walls:

Construction sequence:

Wall slotting → pre-embedded steel plate → chemical bolt installation → layout of step position → welding of the steel plate and square tube → installation of surface layer.

Key points to note:

The embedded steel plate is the stress point of the entire staircase, and professionals need to calculate the corresponding pressure to choose the thickness of the steel plate.

03. What should be done for suspended stone steps?

Method 1

① This method involves planting reinforcement on the steel structure to increase the firmness of the base layer for easy bonding, then leveling it with cement mortar, and finally pasting the stone with adhesive to achieve a stable effect.

② Under normal circumstances, this method requires a minimum of 2 centimeters for stone, 0.8 centimeters for the adhesive layer, and 1.5 centimeters for the mortar layer; The minimum finished surface thickness can be around 5 centimeters.

Method 2

① Stone and base are directly bonded together by an adhesive, and its base only needs to have a flat and sturdy effect.

② Based on the spatial scale, it can be inferred that the thickness of the step is ≤ 80mm. As the overhanging step skeleton is made of steel, it is recommended to use flame-retardant boards and steel plates as the base layer and bond the stone with stone adhesive to reduce the thickness of the finished surface.

③ Using plywood or wooden board instead of cement mortar leveling layer, the plywood can be directly fixed with gun nails and steel plates without grouting, the construction period is fast, and there is no fear of collision during the process.
