What are the common shapes and precautions for marble skirting?

When we are doing interior decoration, the skirting lines at the corners of public areas (such as guest restaurants, corridors, stairs, etc.) need to be installed. The natural luster and texture of natural marble, combined with the later style and shape, are the top choices for decoration skirting lines. What are the regular sizes and commonly used shapes when using stone as a baseboard? What are some suggestions for making baseboards?

When using stone as a skirting line, natural marble is commonly used, while black or gray stone is commonly used as a skirting line in natural marble. When using natural marble as a skirting line, the installation method is usually directly attached to the wall surface, that is, the skirting line is pressed onto the wall surface, protruding one layer of stone thickness from the wall. The skirting line at the corner is transitioned by touching a right angle, and it is generally not recommended to use a hard bucket method. The skirting line of a flat wall should be installed as a line, and there should be no excess advance or retreat. The excess gap should be closed with putty.

What are the commonly used styles?

1. Style 1, single-sided.

Grind a 5mm * 5mm small bevel or small circular edge on the skirting line. Simple, suitable for a minimalist and luxurious style.

2. Style 2, single side+pull groove.

Grind a 5mm * 5mm small bevel or small circular edge on the skirting line, close to grooves ranging from 3mm to 15mm pulled up. Simple and stylish, suitable for a minimalist and luxurious style.

3. Style three, lines.

Grind 30-80mm lines at the end of the skirting line. The design is more complex, with better aesthetics, suitable for more complex styles such as European, American, and French.

So what are the precautions for making stone skirting?

01. It is not recommended to do too high or too low.

The height of natural marble skirting lines is generally between 80mm-200mm. skirting lines smaller than 80mm are too narrow, and natural marble is prone to breakage. skirting lines larger than 200mm are too high, which affects aesthetics. Our home decoration usually has an original indoor clearance height of approximately 2.85 meters, and after adding ceiling tiles and floor tiling, the completed indoor clearance height is approximately 2.5 meters. At this height, if the skirting line is made too high, such as 250mm, it will give a feeling of “small head and big feet”, which will greatly highlight the existence of the skirting line and reduce the visual sense of the wall shape. If the skirting line is made too low, such as 50mm, it will make the visual presence of the skirting line minimal, and cannot achieve its decorative and color-enhancing purpose. So the conventional height of stone skirting lines is 80mm-200mm, while the simple and luxurious style skirting lines are lower than 80mm-120mm, while European, American, French, and other styles of skirting lines are slightly higher than 120mm-200mm. So different styles result in different height choices for the baseboard.

02. It is not recommended to embed stone into the flat wall surface of the exterior wall.

Firstly, because the skirting line is flat on the wall, it is necessary to hit the wall first and apply the skirting line first, which increases labor costs. Additionally, due to overall wall problems, the contact position between the skirting line and the wall may not be consistent. Secondly, the skirting line is flat on the wall, and the contact position between the skirting line and the wall. If putty is used for a long time, it is easy to crack and form through cracks. If it is used for wall cloth or wallpaper, it is difficult to make the closing of the upper opening of the skirting line, which is easily unattractive and affects the overall effect. Finally, it is not conducive to the replacement of the baseboard in the future. So stone skirting lines are generally directly attached to the wall surface.

03. It is not recommended to use white or very light colors for material selection.

If the stone skirting line is selected in white or very light color, it is easy to react with alkali, weaken the decorative purpose of the skirting line, make it difficult to distinguish the space between the wall and the ground, and easily highlight stains. So generally, the material color for stone skirting is dark or black.

04. It is not recommended to use stone skirting for wooden floors.

Wooden flooring is not suitable for using stone skirting lines, which can cause overall mismatch and disharmony. Instead, wooden skirting lines should be used as the most suitable option. So stone skirting is not suitable for rooms with wooden flooring.

05. It is not recommended to draw deep grooves or not polish wide grooves.

When drawing deep grooves for stone skirting lines, the shape of the deep groove position is not prominent, and it is not easy to clean and accumulate dirt. When making a wide groove, not polishing will not reflect the beauty of the shape. So when making grooves for stone skirting lines, the depth of the grooves is generally around 3mm. When making wide grooves, polishing is necessary, and the width of the grooves should not exceed 25mm.

06. It is not recommended to only do a portion of space.

A space is a whole, and if the skirting line is only made in part (excluding the cabinet part) and other materials are used in other positions, it will make the overall integrity of this functional space incomplete. So we usually make all the skirting lines in a functional space, and the cabinet position is the best, and the design is unified.
