People who have come into contact with stone know that when processing stone, they often see the process of stone edging. When edging, some add water, while others just dry grind. What’s the difference between the two? In this article, we will share the problems between stone dry grinding and water grinding.

Stone dry grinding, as the name suggests, is stone grinding without water, water grinding is called a water mill. What’s the difference between the two? When is dry grinding? When is the water mill?
● What’s the difference between dry grinding and water grinding?
1. The grinding plate is different
At present, the mainstream grinding discs on the market are mostly made of synthetic diamond particles and resin bonds. Diamond is what we usually call diamond, and resin, in a broad sense, is a general term for a variety of high molecular polymers that can be used as plastic raw materials.

When grinding stone, the grinding plate rubs against the surface of the stone. Under the speed and pressure of the machine, a high temperature occurs instantly. This temperature can melt the general resin. This is the reason why a poor grinding plate is easy to deform and twist when grinding.
Adding water can accelerate the heat emission during stone grinding, and the requirement for the composition of the grinding plate is slightly lower. However, the heat emission is slow without adding water during dry grinding, so the resin used for the dry grinding plate must be high-temperature resistant resin.

In short, because of the composition, dry grinding pieces can be ground by water, but ordinary water grinding pieces can not be ground for a long time. Grinding pieces made of high-quality resin can be ground by water or dry.
2. Watermill does less damage to the stone
The high temperature produced by grinding can destroy the crystal structure of the stone. After being burned at high temperatures, the stone is prone to a series of problems, such as loss of luster, fragmentation, pulverization, and so on. The reason is the composition of the stone. The main component of marble is calcium carbonate. After high-temperature calcination, calcium carbonate becomes calcium oxide, which is commonly known as the burning process of quicklime. Adding water when the grinding stone can accelerate the heat emission and reduce the damage to the stone.

3. The glossiness of the water mill is more soft and beautiful
In the process of stone grinding and polishing, all the light thrown out at high temperatures is different from that thrown out at natural temperature. Under the natural temperature, the luster thrown out is soft and looks bright. Under the high-temperature condition, the heat generated at the moment of friction has a certain destructive effect on the crystal structure of stone, so the luster produced by dry grinding has the phenomenon of glare, ablation, drying, and insufficient transparency.

General black stone grinding, easy to whiten, using water grinding is better than dry grinding. The color of the beige stone is not transparent during the whole dry grinding process. The bright is bright, but the luster is dry and faint. This is due to the high-temperature ablation during grinding. The heat produced by dry grinding is harmful to any stone. It is not obvious on white and beige light-colored stone, but it is especially obvious on black stone. So dark stone, more transparent jade, the best water grinding.
4. The pollution produced by dry grinding is difficult to treat
Dry grinding produces dust, most of which fly in the air, and a small amount will dissolve or absorb into the holes of stone with polishing. These extremely fine stone powder, into the stone internal moisture absorption, for a long time, will pollute the stone.

The dust in the air is very harmful to the health of stone nurses. And the dust produced during dry grinding is very difficult to deal with. The dust produced during stone grinding is very fine and can float. With the increase of mesh, the fineness of dust increases exponentially, and the dust volume becomes larger and larger. It is very difficult for you to deal with this dust in the city.
● When is the stone dry grinding?
There are three cases to choose dry grinding
1. Stone without protection
Before painting the protective agent, the stone surface that has been sealed with glaze, mirror, or seriously aged surface needs to be opened. The specific method is to grind off the crystal, sealing glaze layer or aged layer on the surface by grinding, to facilitate the absorption of the protective agent.

To achieve a good effect, the stone should be painted with a protective agent under the condition of clean and dry. The stone without protection is easy to absorb water. If the stone surface is opened by water grinding, the construction period will be prolonged. Therefore, the stone without protection can be opened by dry grinding and coated with a protective agent before coating protection.
2. Grinding and polishing
The water mill is used in stone grinding leveling and grinding optimization, and dry grinding is used to speed up the polishing process. The specific method is to use a water mill to grind the stone to 1000 mesh, then the stone can be semi-dry grinding or completely dry grinding with little or no water. In practical application, it will be found that this is a very practical skill to help the stone shine. The reason is that the stone has absorbed water and the ground is wet during the water grinding in the low-grade section, so it can be dry ground after 1000 mesh. Moreover, through the heat of dry grinding, it can accelerate the evaporation of water and dry the stone ahead of time, saving waiting time for the crystal glaze sealing operation.

3. Wall, corner, and table
The wall surface must be the dry ground because the wall surface does not have the condition of water grinding. Imagine the beautiful living room and brand-new furniture of the customer, and the hand polishing machine in your hand throws the water slurry everywhere. After the stone grinding is finished, the edge closing work, such as the wall and the places in the corner where the big machine can’t reach, can be carried out by dry grinding. As well as lines, small area of defects, repair table, dry grinding more convenient. Dry grinding is no water, if the grinding process is found in the dark stone dry grinding white situation, you can add a little water when grinding, so the effect will be better.

Dry mill and water mill have their advantages, depending on what situation we are facing. Correct and reasonable use of dry grinding and water grinding, to ensure that our stone products maximize the advantages. Well, today’s article will be written here first.
