How to remove graffiti marks on marble?

Stone, from its rock state to its use, undergoes several processes such as mining, design and processing, transportation, installation, grinding, refurbishment, and polishing. In these stages, sometimes it is necessary to use a writing pen to make some annotations. However, we found that sometimes, these marks are easy to draw and require a lot of effort to clean. How to remove marker pens? Today, I will give you a few tips to clean up various types of graffiti pen pollution on stone.

Why should I write on the stone?

1. Sort:

Marble has natural textures, arranged in order before installation, and can be connected according to the texture for the best decorative effect. Otherwise, the order will be disrupted and the texture will also be disrupted.

2. Annotation function:

If a power switch or pipeline needs to be installed on a certain stone, it needs to be marked.

3. Others:

For example, some stones need to be marked with various information such as the name and origin of the stone using a marker. As well as some other needs, they are accustomed to directly marking on the stone. And various small advertisements, etc.

Method of clearing

Due to their different materials, the cleaning methods and difficulty are also different.

1. Crayon markings

The wax composition of crayons can attach to stone. Stones have differences in smooth, matte, and rough surfaces, and different methods need to be used when removing them. If it is a crayon mark on a smooth stone, it can be erased with steel wool. If it is a crayon mark on a matte or rough surface, the wax component embedded in the uneven part of the stone surface cannot be erased. At this point, waxing water is needed. Dip an appropriate amount of waxy water into a soft cloth each time, and continuously wipe the area with wax content to remove it.

2. Water-based note number

A water-based marker actually uses water-soluble pigments for writing. Therefore, the water-based marker on the stone is contaminated and requires the use of professional materials such as color removers. Spray an appropriate amount of color remover on the marked area and wipe it with a soft cloth. If the pollution is deep, wipe it several times more.

3. Oily note numbers and ink lines

The marks left by oily markers and ink lines are mainly composed of ink. These oily substances penetrate into the microporous structure of the stone, forming oil pollution. This kind of mark can be applied with DR-stone adhesive clear.

Step 1: Isolate the marked area with masking paper.

Step 2: Spray an appropriate amount of DR-stone adhesive on the marked area.

Step 3: Cover with clean cotton yarn or multiple layers of tissue.

Step 4: Spray an appropriate amount of DR-stone glue on cotton yarn or tissue.

Step 5: Cover with plastic film and secure with masking paper.

Step 6: After 24 hours, remove the film, cotton yarn, or tissue to remove the contamination.

Step 7: If the pollution is deep and cannot be removed at once, repeat the above steps 2-3 times.

4. Woodworking pencil marking

Many people find that the marks left by woodworking pencils cannot be removed with water, alcohol, coloring materials, or oil removal materials.

Let’s think about it, what do we use to clear ordinary pencil characters—— Rubber! So, the carpenter’s pencil marks left on the stone can also be directly erased with a rubber.
