How are natural cave stones repaired and refurbished?

The beauty of cave stones is simple and elegant; Although the cave stones are good, maintenance is not easy. Doing wall cavity stone care is difficult! Doing ground cave stone care is even more difficult! This article shows how natural cave stones can be repaired and refurbished. The technical solution of “overall cleaning+UV curing treatment+overall grinding and crystallization” was adopted, which not only repaired the pollution, scratches, and damages that appeared in stone applications, but also filled the holes and processed the overall grinding and crystallization. The dual goals of “solving problems” and “improving decorative application performance” have been achieved.

1、 Engineering standards

① Clean the stone holes and restore the natural color and texture of the stone.

② Perform overall scraping and photo-curing treatment, repair holes, and ensure that the color of the adhesive is consistent with the stone.

③ Requirements for crystal hardening treatment effect: anti-fouling and anti-seepage, bright and transparent, moist and thick. Surface glossiness ≥ 85 degrees.

2、 Construction process

① Finished product protection

Cover the surrounding items with plastic film and secure them with textured paper to protect them from contamination. Requirement: Keep items free from dust contamination during the cleaning process and mud contamination during the polishing process.

② 50 # Grinding disc processing

The main purpose of this step is to open the original crystal layer of the ground cave stone, facilitating subsequent cleaning and cleaning. There are two options for this step: dry grinding and water grinding. So the editor will analyze the two options here to see which one is better:

The main reason for choosing dry grinding is to be afraid of water entering the cave stones, which is difficult to handle. However, in practical operation, it has been found that using dry grinding can result in a large amount of dust settling into the holes of the stone slab. A vacuum pump can remove some of this dust, but there is still a considerable amount of dust that cannot be cleaned up. Therefore, the editor does not recommend dry grinding.

We suggest using water grinding: use VD marble super grinding disc 50 # for water grinding, and add “VD composite silane protective agent” in the grinding water in a ratio of 1:20. Pay attention to timely pumping during grinding. After an on-site comparison, water grinding has a better effect than dry grinding.

③ Treat with 46 # antique grinding brush

Use a crystal face machine and a 46 # antique grinding brush to treat the board. The purpose is to remove the existing adhesive from the holes in the board; Remove the fragile parts around the small holes of the cave stone, leaving a solid part; And remove pollutants from the holes in the board.

④ Fan drying

To increase the drying speed of the ground board, use a row of blowers, with one fan every 20-30 meters in the field of view, blowing in the same direction. Pay attention to opening doors, windows, and ventilation ducts when blowing.

⑤ Scraping treatment

3、 The next step is the most important part of the project

Step 1: Use imported marble glue and color glue to make the stone color consistent, then add dilute glue to enhance fluidity.

Step 2: Scrap the prepared glue twice with a scraper. The first layer should first fill the large hole with glue and fill it.

Step 3: According to the first step method, add more dilute glue to the imported marble glue and color glue to achieve stronger fluidity. Use a scraper to apply overall adhesive treatment to the small holes on the board.

Step 4: Dry for more than 24 hours.

Step 5: Use VD-4T grinder+VD marble super grinding disc 150 # for water grinding. After grinding, small holes begin to appear on the surface of the board.

Step 6: Dry with a fan.

Step 7: Use a scraper to apply photo-cured thixotropic adhesive to the surface of the board, and uniformly and densely apply the overall scraping treatment to the board. Scrape twice in a row.

Step 8: Use a UV curing machine and push it evenly along the scraping area. The UV-curing adhesive will dry when exposed to ultraviolet light.

⑥ Overall grinding treatment

Use a VD-4T grinder, combined with VD marble super grinding disc “300 #+500 #+1000 #+2000 #+3000 #” for overall grinding treatment. Overall flatness requirement after grinding: 2m ± 1mm; 20cm ± 0mm; The overall glossiness requirement after grinding is 55~60 degrees.

⑦ Glazing treatment

Use VD eccentric crystal face machine+3M4100 # scouring pad+VD stone sealing glaze No.1 and No.2 for overall sealing treatment.

Step 1: Use VD stone sealing glaze No. 2 for primer.

Step 2: Seal No. 1 and No. 2 with VD stone and mix them in a 1:1 ratio.

Step 3: Repeat the above steps 2-3 times to achieve a glossiness of 85 degrees or above, and achieve a “moist, transparent, and bright” crystallization effect, anti-fouling, anti-slip, and first-class wear resistance.
