The appearance rate of stone in the design is like that “missing” Chanel coat. It is classic, luxurious, good-looking, and versatile. When it’s gone, it always feels that something is missing? However, the material of stone will always encounter various problems: seam retention, wall hanging, ceiling mounting, fixing, etc. these problems are very troublesome for everyone. Today, let’s discuss and solve them together: why do you need seam retention between wall stones?

Depth analysis of stone joint treatment
For the stone joints on the wall, close seam splicing shall not be used for the stone joints as far as possible during drawing, because the edge is easy to collapse in the construction process and the quality is not easy to control, so V-shaped or U-shaped concave joints can be used for stone splicing.
Of course, in addition to process factors, cost and design effect are also important factors of the scheme. For example, the causes of stone seam treatment can be analyzed from three aspects: appearance factors, construction factors, and cost factors.

1. Perception factors
a. A large area of stone leaves a gap, which can effectively avoid the problem of poor appearance caused by uneven and non-vertical installation caused by various reasons in the process of on-site construction.
b. Stone seam can effectively alleviate the color difference collision problem of the stone itself. After the seam is left, the color difference will be alleviated, which is not as obvious as the tight seam.
c. It can effectively avoid the defects caused by bump and cutting errors caused by various reasons. After the practice of leaving seams, the small bumps at the edges and corners will not appear so obvious and weaken its existence. Of course, if the edges and corners collide greatly, the treatment method of leaving joints cannot be covered up, and the stone must be replaced or repaired by the manufacturer.
d. If the pattern of the stone itself is not obvious, or it is close to the solid color, the whole space will appear weak and paste into a ball without seam treatment, and the effect is similar to that presented by the coating. At this time, the technique of seam can be used to make the whole space strong.

2. Construction factors
a. After seam treatment, large area stone installation is more convenient and fast.
Based on a 600 * 600 brick, a group of qualified workers can hang about 15 ~ 30 ㎡ every day, which is higher than the dry hanging efficiency in closed joints. (when sealing, a group of workers can hang about 10 ~ 20 ㎡ every day, and two people are a group).
b. The dry hanging stone installation method with joint treatment is not easy to cause quality problems.
The most common quality problem of dry hanging stone on the wall is that the surface is uneven, not vertical and diagonal. After sealing, these problems can be easily avoided and unnecessary rework can be avoided.
The dry hanging process is adopted to install the stone. Under normal circumstances, it is not necessary to reserve expansion joints. Because the possibility of material deformation caused by thermal expansion and cold contraction of dry hanging stone is unlikely. Dry hanging is different from wet pasting. It has no role in mortar and adhesive. Normal thermal expansion and cold contraction will not have a great impact on stone.

3. Cost factors
a. If a large area of stone is reserved for joint treatment, to ensure that there is no hand cutting at the joint, edge grinding and sweeping treatment will be required, and the cost will be included in the stone processing fee, which can appropriately increase the project profit.
b. If the stone gap is too small, the stone needs to be pointed, which can also increase the cost of the project and achieve a better decorative effect.

4. Disadvantages of wall stone joint
a. From the perspective of appearance, it is not suitable for a small space.
① People in small spaces are close enough to the wall to easily feel the roughness of the gap.
② If the reserved joint is inappropriate, it just stays above and below the person’s horizon (1300 ~ 1500mm), and the fixed steel frame inside will be seen through the gap, which will lose the significance of the reserved joint.
b. The gap size needs to be strictly controlled. If the gap size is controlled differently, the final effect can be imagined.
c. The joint retention treatment has a higher test on the workers’ technology and the management of the construction process. Close seam dry hanging adhesive can be applied at will, but for seam retention treatment, the dose of dry hanging adhesive shall be strictly controlled. Once it is hit too much, it is not cleaned in time in the later stage. After it is cured, it will be difficult to clean it up, and finally form an obvious glue mark, which will affect the appearance of the final product.

5. There are three types of wall stone joints
a. The biggest advantage of joint retention is to avoid the collision of stone edges and corners and the unevenness and straightness of the surface. The three most common joint retention methods are shown in the above figure.
b. Gap size of stone joint: 2 ~ 5mm gap should be reserved for smooth stone surface treatment, and 5 ~ 10mm gap should be reserved for rough stone surface treatment. However, the rough stone itself has various advantages of joint retention, so joint retention is of little significance.

There are both advantages and disadvantages of a wall stone seam. The key depends on the location of the stone and the size of the space. We must firmly grasp this knowledge. Well, this article will be written here first. If you have any questions, you can email me at any time at sales@sntstone.com.
